Backstory: How I Found My Way to Self-Discovery
In my late 20s I hit a proverbial wall (my dark night of the soul, if you will).
I was depressed, riddled with anxiety, and experiencing the onset of a years-long battle with “face hives” – mystery skin inflammation that covered my head and neck.
And to top it all off, I suffered an emotional breakdown and had to take an extended medical leave from work.
My body and mind were setting off all the alarms that something was wrong.
It took all of that, plus waking up in the middle of the night in a full-blown panic attack to finally step back and say, “Something’s not right. I can’t live this way anymore.”
That’s when I decided things needed to change.
A Much Needed Perspective Shift
It’s crazy to look back on that time and realize the stress, unhealthy lifestyle, and disconnection from myself felt completely normal.
I didn’t realize anything was wrong until something happened that didn’t allow me to ignore it anymore.
Hitting that wall ended up being one of the greatest gifts of my life.
It forced me to look at how I was living – from all angles.
I had to get honest about the choices I was making to support my physical health (spoiler: most of my choices weren’t healthy).
I realized I needed support to get my mental health back on track.
And I started soul-searching by facing questions that my heart had been whispering like, “What is the point of all of this?”
It was the launch pad for my self-discovery journey. And let me tell you, I did a deep dive.
As You Start to Walk Out on the Way, The Way Appears (Rumi)
I craved learning more, so I enrolled in a program to become a holistic health coach. And I’ve continued my studies over the years, eventually training in energy healing and becoming certified as a reiki master.
I’ve always been a deeply curious person with a profound love of learning and once I found my path, I haven’t looked back.
The last decade of my life has been dedicated to learning, studying, and deepening my self-discovery practice.
Within that practice there are many tools to choose from, but the two I’ve used consistently over the years (and feel very connected to) are meditation and freewriting.
The more I peeled back my own layers and understood what was going on below the surface, the more I realized there was a glaring lack of education and tools to support whole-person wellness: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.
Following a Calling
I’m an 80s baby and while I was growing up, these aspects of our health were not topics of conversation. We didn’t know then what we know now.
That lack of awareness and education, coupled with my love of helping others led me to my work as a Self-Discovery Guide.
Today, there’s mountains of research showcasing the intricate role the mind + body connection has on our overall health & wellbeing.
That’s why my work is built around addressing health from a holistic perspective, with specific emphasis on emotional health and building resilience.
Today, my self-discovery practice is a source of comfort, inspiration and connection in my life.
It helps me hear and follow my inner wisdom and provides peace-of-mind that I once didn’t think was possible for me.
All these years later it continues to unfold as a beautiful and expansive journey. And helping others build their own unique self-discovery path feels like exactly what I’m meant to do in this life.
